Thanks for accepting our interview request! Can you tell us about your latest release, \”Monkeys,\” on Crazy Tower? What inspired this track?

I wanted to experiment further with a techno track and include a sample that would really stick in people\’s minds. What better choice than a monkey scream?

How did you come up with the name \”Jimmy The Sound\”?

The name \’Jimmy the Sound\’ has two parts: \’Jimmy\’ is a tribute to my favorite wrestler, Jimmy Snuka; \’The Sound\’ signifies my desire to spread my own unique sound.

You are part of the duo known as 2 Brothers of Hardstyle. How did this partnership come about, and what makes it so special?

Our collaboration began many years ago, initially not as a musical duo, but as colleagues at a historic club in our area. After achieving good results and both being DJs, we realized that by joining forces, we could reach impressive levels of production and gain significant satisfaction. It\’s our friendship, which feels like brotherhood, that makes us special. That\’s why we are the \’2 Brothers of Hardstyle.

Your track \”Todos Locos\” with Delfromad has over half a million streams. What was the creative process behind this collaboration?

Actually, the process was very simple! We used the kick line from \’Bow C Bow,\’ modified it slightly, and added a vocal sample (sung by me) in Spanish to pay homage to our Spanish followers. We\’re really happy with the result we achieved over the years, but we never expected it to become a worldwide hit!

\”M.O.D.U.L.O.\” received massive support from many top DJs. What do you think makes this track stand out?

I think this track stands out because it was created during a time when I revolutionized the Italian method of making hardstyle. Using the various synthesizers available then, I managed to produce harder sounds than usual and pushed some sounds to the extreme by looping them. The result of my intense creative process at that moment is this track.

How does it feel to have your tracks played at major festivals like Sensation Black and by renowned DJs such as The Prophet and Technoboy?

Obviously, I am very honored by all this. Although I\’ve always had different ideas about production (as it should be), they have always been my guiding lights, along with Zenith. I owe much of my inspiration to them.

You have a rich history in the Hardstyle scene. How has the genre evolved since you started, and where do you see it going in the future?

Well, I believe that hardstyle has evolved significantly over the past 20 years. It has transitioned from a niche genre to a mainstream one. However, I think music is like a circle: you eventually return to the starting point. We\’re seeing this in recent years, with hard techno incorporating many sounds reminiscent of early hardstyle.

Can you share some memorable moments from your performances in Switzerland, Spain, Holland, and the UK?

UK: It was a surprise! Last year, I performed (both as JTS and 2BOH) at a party in the legendary Doncaster Warehouse, and the reaction was superb! What was incredible was that people from Belgium were there listening to me, which was very gratifying. Fortunately, my reverse bass tracks are popular in the UK, and it\’s great to see such a positive reaction when I play!

NL: I will always remember the first Defqon1 where I was a guest on the Blue stage. I can\’t forget such an experience. I also have to mention Multigroove and Hardclassics, two events that have given me many emotions over the years. However, I think the greatest emotion I felt was in 2003 at Shockers – Extreme Audio at the RAI in Amsterdam, where I played \’Theme of Beverly Hills Cop\’ under the alias \’Miami Style\’ for the first time. Hearing 45,000 people sing the chorus together gave me chills.

Spain: Spain holds a special place in my heart. I\’ve been fortunate to perform at iconic venues like In Prima and Fabrik, which are the bastions of hard music in Madrid. I have a deep connection with Spain because of its warm and friendly people. Every time I play there, it feels like being at home.

Switzerland: I\’ve had the pleasure of performing in another incredible country—Switzerland—where I\’ve been part of amazing parties at venues like Oxa, the Mad, and the White Wolf, etc. The energy there is unparalleled. While I\’ve never participated in a street parade, overall, I\’ve had a lot of satisfaction in Switzerland.

Overall, I find joy in every performance, whether it\’s at a party of 100 people or 1000, or even at a festival. I consistently manage to connect with the audience, and that connection fills me with energy and happiness every time.

As the owner of HB RECORDS, what do you look for in new artists and tracks?

Primarily, myself and Delfromad, the co-founder of HB Records, prioritize humility in emerging artists, although regrettably, it\’s not a quality found in everyone. Once we identify this trait, we leverage our expertise to mentor them not only in music production but also in navigating various situations. Our approach involves scouting and coaching. Musically, our focus is on producers in the reverse bass genre. Artists like SIMOX epitomize what we seek: remarkable musical talent coupled with humility. Our label operates as a collective, where each artist\’s work takes center stage, and everyone contributes their insights. When there\’s unanimous agreement that a track is ready, it\’s released.

What does your typical day in the studio look like when you\’re working on new music?

My typical day involves locking myself in the studio with complete focus, aiming to translate the ideas swirling in my head into music. It\’s not always straightforward, as various variables come into play when working with different plugins. Despite the challenges, I always strive to give my best and maintain utmost concentration.

With over 1 million total streams, what strategies do you use to promote your music and connect with your fans?

Since the onset of the pandemic, I\’ve been consistently hosting live-streams on Facebook, and I haven\’t looked back since! I go \’ON AIR\’ regularly, usually every 1 or 2 weeks, featuring a mix of my tracks, as well as those from HB Records. I also showcase many of my promos during these sessions, allowing me to gauge feedback from my followers and ensure we\’re heading in the right direction in terms of sound.

Your music often creates an \”unmistakable musical journey.\” Can you explain what this journey entails and how you achieve it?

I\’m someone who thoroughly studies situations, especially when I\’m about to dive into a party atmosphere. Unlike many others, I pay close attention to the audience and make an effort to understand their expectations. Most of the time, I manage to gauge their vibe, and that\’s when the connection starts to form. When the energy aligns and there\’s mutual excitement, that\’s when the unforgettable journey truly begins.

You have a thirty-year friendship with your music partner. How has this relationship influenced your music and career?

Well, my fraternal friendship with DELFROMAD was more of a complement than an influence. We balance each other out a lot where I fall short, he steps in, and vice versa. It\’s often said that behind an excellent football coach, there\’s always a great assistant coach. Our dynamic is similar to this analogy.

What challenges have you faced in your career, and how have you overcome them?

Undoubtedly, like everyone else, the Covid period was challenging in many ways. However, the support from my followers and the decision to launch a label during this time helped me navigate through it as best as possible

How do you stay motivated and inspired to create new music after so many years in the industry?

My deep passion for this music fuels me and keeps me focused on my craft. The positive responses I receive at every party I attend further reinforce my dedication. The warmth and positivity I receive from the audience are always uplifting and motivating

Can you tell us about the most challenging project you\’ve worked on and how you tackled it?

The most challenging project for me was undoubtedly a track titled \’EXIT 5 – RUNNING THE MUSIC.\’ Initially, the track featured a Spanish vocal sample, which, unfortunately, couldn\’t be officially released due to its origin from a previously released track. We replaced the vocals with an English rendition by a singer, but I couldn\’t shake the feeling that it didn\’t quite capture the essence of the Spanish sample. Overall, it was the most demanding project I\’ve ever worked on.

What advice would you give to aspiring Hardstyle producers and DJs who want to break into the scene?

Certainly, cultivating humility, as mentioned earlier, is crucial. Additionally, I would recommend dedicating significant time to honing your mixing technique. Back in our day, there were no syncs or advanced filtering features in mixers. We learned by observing and emulating the techniques of DJs who were more experienced than us, then practicing diligently at home every single day. On a production level, it\’s important to unleash your creativity and persist, even when it feels like you\’re hitting dead ends. With time and dedication, opportunities will arise. So, don\’t rush to achieve success; it requires patience, passion, and, as I always emphasize, humility.

How do you see your sound evolving in the next few years, and are there any new genres or styles you want to explore?

In fact, many may not know that I\’ve explored various other genres under different aliases, ranging from techno to trance. I\’ve even produced some hardcore tracks that were regularly released on sublabels over the years. Currently, I feel very comfortable with my work in hardstyle and my experiments in techno. However, this doesn\’t mean I\’m closed off to other inspirations that may come my way at any moment. I\’m open to exploring any genre that resonates with me.

Finally, what can your fans expect from you in the near future? Any upcoming projects or collaborations we should look out for?

I\’m currently planning collaborations within the techno scene, which is providing me with a lot of inspiration and motivation. This expansion into a different genre is helping me broaden my creative horizons beyond hardstyle. In the hardstyle realm, I have several collaborations lined up under 2BOH, along with exciting releases on my label. I encourage all my followers to stay connected on my channels for updates and releases.
