\”Got Soul ?\” by Oliver Schories on Pracht: feel the depth of your soul

Oliver Schories, the Hamburg powerhouse of deep melodic techno, has kicked off 2024 with a bang, dropping his latest release \”Got Soul ?\” on the Leipzig-based label Pracht. Known for his meticulous craftsmanship and the philosophy that \”Quality will find its way\”, Schories continues to blaze trails in the electronic music scene, marrying soulful vibes with the driving force of techno beats.

\”Got Soul ?\” is a journey through the mind of an artist who\’s spent over two decades exploring and shaping the contours of electronic music. With a tempo set at a steady 121 BPM and rooted in the emotive terrain of F♯ Minor, the EP encapsulates the essence of Schories\’ signature sound – deep, introspective, yet undeniably geared for the dance floor.

From his early days, veering away from the punk rock of Green Day and Nirvana to his immersion in the world of electronic beats, Schories\’ evolution has been anything but linear. His initial flirtation with vocal house gradually gave way to a deeper connection with techno and the harder-edged \”Schranz\” sound, influenced by titans like Chris Liebing and Adam Beyer. Yet, it was his disillusionment with the club scene\’s stagnation in 2003 that pushed him to explore the UK\’s dynamic beats of Drum and Bass, Jungle, and Garage.

Oliver Schories is not one to rest on his laurels. After riding the wave of \”New Rave\” with artists like Digitalism and Boys Noize, he refined his sound, focusing on minimalistic, intelligent arrangements that have become his hallmark. His journey through soundscapes has been marked by milestones, from the release of \”Herzenssache\” in 2012 to founding his own label, SOSO Hamburg, where he released critically acclaimed albums like \”Fields Without Fences\” and \”Relatively Definitely.\”

Over the past few years, the artist has released a number of releases and remixes in various genres, from minimal to tech house: \”Gordon\”, \”Heartbreaker\”, \”Home\”, \”Mirada\”, \”Heaven\”, \”Kysh\” among others. Each one demonstrates Oliver\’s mastery and sensitivity to music that he has honed over the years.

Pracht e.V., the label behind \”Got Soul ?\”, mirrors Schories\’ ethos of innovation and quality. Established in 2015, Pracht is a beacon in Leipzig\’s East, championing progressive arts and music with a DIY spirit and a commitment to non-commercial values. It\’s a space where creativity knows no bounds, offering a platform for artists to push the envelope and engage with a community that values diversity and inclusivity.
