Over the years, he\’s captivated audiences across Italy and earned a reputation for his unique sound, leading to appearances at major festivals like the MDA Festival in Florence. Transitioning to production under the moniker David Bean in 2022, he\’s released tracks on prestigious labels like Eclipse and IAMT, and co-founded the RAVE Plus label with Danny Fontana in 2024. His new \”Police\” EP on RAVE Plus topped the Beatport Hard Techno chart shortly after release. With continued global performances and popular tracks like \”Paranoid\”, Martini has secured his place in the techno scene.

ー Hello, David! We are happy to see you on the pages of Tune in Mag! How are you? What this spring brings to you ー in personal and professional life? How busy is this period for you?
ー Hello! I\’m doing well, thank you for asking! Spring brings me an atmosphere of renewal and growth both in my personal and professional life. Currently, I\’m heavily involved in music production and have opened my new label, RAVE Plus. This means I\’m quite busy planning the upcoming releases and working with artists to advance their projects. It\’s a rather intense period, but also extremely rewarding. Fun fact: before dedicating myself to music, I spent five years as a pastry chef.
ー What initially drew you to electronic music, and how have your early influences shaped the sound you\’ve developed today?
ー Growing up in Tuscany, electronic music has always had a profound impact on me. Living through the golden era of the Duplè nightclub, I became a devoted fan of Roland Brant, a formidable artist. Having had the privilege to remix his masterpieces like \”Nuclear Sun\” and \”Mastermind\” deeply influenced my musical journey. Additionally, icons like Carl Cox and Sven Väth played a significant role in shaping my sound. Another Italian artist who left a lasting impression on me was Stefano Bratti. His composition \”I Will Find You\” composed alongside singer Mohikana became a timeless hit in every Italian club during the \’90s. These early influences have greatly contributed to the sound I\’ve developed today.
ー You transitioned from DJ Dav1d to David Bean. What inspired this change, and how does it reflect your evolution as an artist?
ー Under the alias DJ Dav1d, I achieved many successes and musical satisfactions. In fact, I performed at a Tuscan MDA festival at the peak of my career. However, I reached a point where I needed to reflect on my artistic journey. It became evident that I needed to make a total change in my career to reach new heights. In 2022, I met Danny Fontana, a well-known techno producer, and together we embarked on a collaboration that continues to this day. With the new alias David Bean, I have evolved and cut ties with the past. While performing as DJ Dav1d, I was confined to moderate BPM ranges. Now, as David Bean, I feel more liberated to express myself fully, ranging from 140 to 160 BPM. This transition reflects my growth as an artist and my willingness to explore new avenues in music.
ー Your track \”Police\” from \”Police\” EP has made significant waves in the Hard Techno scene. It quickly rose to the top spot on Beatport\’s top 100 releases for Hard Techno within just three days of its release. Congratulations! Can you talk about the inspiration behind this EP and the reaction from your fans?
ー Thank you so much! It was truly incredible because not only did \”Police\” rise to the top spot on Beatport\’s top 100 releases for Hard Techno within just three days of its release, but it was also the inaugural release of our label. So, it was a monumental achievement for all of us involved. The inspiration behind the EP came to me unexpectedly. While I was at home, improvising with my synth in front of Ableton, a police car with sirens blaring passed by my window. That moment sparked the idea to begin this track with the synth notes I was playing at that exact moment. It was a spontaneous and powerful inspiration that led to the creation of \”Police\” and the subsequent success it achieved. The reaction from our fans has been overwhelmingly positive, and I\’m incredibly grateful for their support.
ー You\’ve recently co-founded RAVE Plus with Danny Fontana. What was the vision behind starting this label, and what do you hope to achieve through it? Are there specific artists or projects you\’re excited to showcase?
ー RAVE Plus was born from our desire to expand our musical brand and signature into new horizons. Currently, we\’re incredibly busy, and we hit the ground running. In fact, we\’re fully booked with fantastic demos until this July. Our schedule will consist of one release per week, and we\’re committed to promoting each artist to the fullest. We\’re sincerely grateful to all the artists who have placed their trust in us, and we\’re excited to showcase their talent to the world! Our upcoming releases will feature artists of the caliber of Haze C, known for his productions on Odd Recordings, alongside Elvis Ojeda and AILS, both prominent artists from CODEX. As for future releases, it will be a surprise that we can\’t reveal just yet, but I can assure you it will be something exceptional!
ー Describe your creative process when producing a new track. How do you balance innovation with your signature style?
ー When it comes to crafting a new hard techno track, the process feels like diving into a vortex of pulsating beats and electrifying melodies. It usually begins with a burst of inspiration sparked by the energy of the dance floor or the raw intensity of everyday life. From there, I delve deep into the sonic realm, sculpting intricate basslines and layering mesmerizing synth patterns to create a rich tapestry of sound. Maintaining the delicate balance between innovation and my signature style is key. While I\’m always eager to explore new sonic territories and push the boundaries of my sound, I also strive to infuse each track with elements that resonate with my audience and capture the essence of my musical identity.
Throughout the creative process, I embrace experimentation with gusto, whether it\’s manipulating audio samples in unconventional ways of incorporating unexpected percussion elements. This fearless approach allows me to stay true to my artistic vision while continually evolving and pushing the boundaries of my sound. Ultimately, my goal is to craft a track that not only ignites the dance floor but also leaves a lasting impression on listeners, transporting them to a realm where the music speaks louder than words. It\’s a thrilling and dynamic process — one that fuels my passion for creating hard-hitting techno tracks that resonate with audiences worldwide.
ー How would you describe the electronic scene in Italy? What has changed and how has it developed from the beginning of your career to today?
ー The electronic scene in Italy has always been vibrant and diverse, with a rich history. Throughout my career, I\’ve witnessed many changes unfold. In the beginning, there were iconic clubs and underground events that truly fueled the heart of Italian electronic music. In recent years, I\’ve noticed a growing interest in genres like hard techno and melodic techno, with new emerging talents bringing a breath of fresh air and innovation. It\’s fantastic to see how technology and social media have made it easier for emerging artists to get themselves known and share their music with the world. While I\’m currently immersed in projects abroad, I can\’t wait to return to Italy to make the dance floors throb with my music. And, knowing that I have some exciting projects in the pipeline that are currently top secret, all I can say is that big things are on the horizon that will surely bring new life to the Italian electronic scene.
ー Beyond music, are there other creative outlets or hobbies that you\’re passionate about?
ー Aside from music, I have a few other creative outlets and hobbies that I\’m passionate about. I have a hobby for cars, enjoying the thrill of both driving and admiring them. I also dote on my dog, who has a real obsession with carrots! He\’s crazy about them, just like me when it comes to music production! But hey, at least I can say I have a furry companion who shares my passion for veggies! Additionally, I have a sweet tooth and a great passion for desserts. Indulging in delicious treats is another way I enjoy spending my free time. And of course, I also carve out some time to relax and unwind with gaming on my PlayStation 5. It\’s the perfect escape from my busy work schedule.
